Celia Atherton has been Director of the Social Justice programme at the Dartington Hall Trust since 2009, having started and led Research in Practice there since 1996. Since 2013 she has also lead the Central Fundraising team. The Social Justice programme is committed to promoting greater fairness – focusing on Improving the knowledge and skills of others; delivering flagship community projects on the Dartington Hall Estate; and promoting new ideas and debate. Celia’s background is in social work. Celia has worked in both the statutory and voluntary sectors, including as Director of Family Rights Group and as a member of a number of advisory groups, most recently the Government’s Social Work Task Force. In 2007 she was awarded an OBE for services to children and families. She has led the Trust’s Abundant Life development team for over five years – a scheme designed to promote older people’s ability to lead convivial, independent lives.
